Meaningful democracy requires the meaningful participation of youth. Young people have much to offer societies – from innovation to creativity to new thinking. Their participation in democracy promotes active citizenship, strengthens social responsibility and can enhance democratic processes and institutions. Yet young people’s engagement with democracy faces significant challenges – threatening the ongoing political transformation in Somalia.
Bareedo Platform has been carrying series of consultation workshops with youth members in Puntland to discuss the existing challenges that prevented youth to participate in the country’s political process and draw solution to overcome such challenges affectively.
The target areas are Bosaso, Garowe, Galkacyo, Badhan and Buuhoodle and will be inviting the youth associations and other engaged stakeholders to a consultation workshop and will compile the facts and solutions as suggested by the youth themselves and the stakeholders engaged on youth matters.
