About Bareedo Platform
Bareedo Platform is a youth-led, non-governmental and non-profit organization established in 2015 in Somalia to advance inclusive democracy, civic participation, and digital rights. The organization is dedicated to empowering citizens—particularly young people, women, and marginalized communities—to actively and meaningfully participate in public decision-making processes. Bareedo Platform is officially registered in Puntland State of Somalia under the NGO Act 2016 as a national non-governmental, non-profit organization (License No. 0000402).
Our Background
Bareedo Platform was founded by a group of committed young leaders who recognized the systemic exclusion of citizens—especially youth—from governance and decision-making processes in Somalia. After decades of conflict and fragile state-building, the absence of inclusive participation has remained a major barrier to achieving peace, stability, and sustainable democratic development.
Youth constitute approximately 75% of Somalia’s population, yet they continue to face significant barriers to engagement in political and public life. This marginalization has contributed to a range of negative outcomes, including social exclusion, unemployment, irregular migration through dangerous routes such as the Sahara Desert, and vulnerability to recruitment by armed groups. Similarly, women and minority communities remain underrepresented in decision-making, further limiting the inclusiveness and effectiveness of governance systems.
Bareedo Platform was established in response to these challenges, grounded in the belief that inclusive citizen engagement is fundamental to building a peaceful, stable, and democratic society.
Our Mission
Bareedo Platform’s mission is to promote a more inclusive, participatory, and responsive democratic system where all citizens feel empowered, informed, and valued in shaping public policies and decisions that affect their lives.
Our Vision
We envision a Somalia where every citizen—regardless of age, gender, or background—has the opportunity and capacity to participate in governance, contributing to a society that is inclusive, accountable, and democratic.
