Meaningful democracy requires the meaningful participation of youth. Young people have much to offer societies – from innovation to creativity to new thinking. Their participation in democracy promotes active citizenship, strengthens social responsibility and can enhance democratic processes and institutions. Yet young people’s engagement with democracy faces significant challenges – threatening the ongoing political transformation in Somalia. Bareedo Platform Somalia promotes participation, influence and representation of young people in decision-making and governance structures in Somalia by providing them with leadership, advocacy skills, mentoring and also their legal and constitutional rights to influence the decision-making process and exercise their role as responsible citizens.
